Embryology is the study of human reproductive biology and assisted reproductive technology (ART). It is one of the developing fields that have seen enormous growth in the past two decades. It is expected that it will continue to expand and more educated clinical embryologists will be needed as a result. Here are some of the important things that you need to know about embryologist who have entered into this evolving field.
1.Embryologists are Scientists
Embryologists are often called scientists who are involved in fertility treatment in the field of reproductive medicine. They are scientists, not medical doctors, but they do discuss treatments with patients, explaining success rates and statistics. They collect mature eggs from the women (known as donor) and asses the sperm samples from male partner in order to make the fertilization process successful. The process done by the embryologist happens in the laboratory dish, which means outside the human body.
2.Doing IUI, IVF & ICSI is their responsibilities
Clinical embryologists are mainly responsible for retrieving eggs, assisting with in vitro fertilization. Embryologists often work in hospitals and fertility clinics, where they are responsible for performing the assisted reproductive procedures in the state-of-the-art laboratories.
3.Strict Procedures done on time
A team of embryologists in the lab, typically work from 10am to 6pm, IVF treatment works to a strict timeline. Procedures must be done at a certain time, and sometimes they have to assess the development of 20 embryos. Each embryologist is assigned a task, such as freezing or thawing embryos, collecting eggs, preparing sperm samples. There are many regulations, so they make sure that they record everything which they do, and sign off each procedure. There's also good deal of paperwork too.
The candidates who are interested to seek embryology training in India require having a degree in biological sciences. International Institute of Reproduction and Fertility Training (IIRFT) offer embryology training and various short-term courses. IIRFT short-term courses include Basic Course in Semenology IUI, Advanced Course in ICSI, Introductory Course in ART, Certificate Course in ART and Advanced Course in Cryopreservation.
